Sad as this sounds, I respect Taylor Swift as a country singer... we don't tend (ha ha, I mean "ever") get them in Britain, and as I was (randomly) brought up on Emmylou Harris and the Dixie Chicks et al, it's nice to be able to like country in a socially acceptable manner... without being accused of being a red-neck, I mean.

Geez, I hate stereotypes...

okay. i will acknowledge that some of her lyrics do play into gender stereotypes. but really? there are so few role models out there for girls, and Taylor Swfit represents a lot of really positive things, such as singing and writing her own music successfully.

I admit she's not the perfect FEMINIST role model, but i think it's important to acknowledge women who do really cool things whether they're completely feminist or not.

It doesn't always have to be all or nothing. Just because somebody isn't completely feminist doesn't mean they don't represent some feminist ideals. And just because they aren't feminist doesn't mean we should hate them.

Being a teenage feminist I was very excited to discover a new teenage feminist blog. I kept my mind open during the praise of Ted Kennedy because I am aware that in England we hate him as a lying, cheating murderer and that might have tainted my view a little, and I carried on searching. However with this post- unequivocally lauding a saccharine product of pop culture who writes such anti-feminist drivel [honestly, have you HEARD the lyrcis to "Love Story"?!!!] you have lost all feminist credentials in my eyes. What a pity. I don't want to say anything personal against Taylor Swift, so please don't mistake this for an attack on her, but her song "Love Story" makes me despair with every feminist cell in my body and thus I find her a strange candidate for acclaim on a feminist blog. A profile on Sarah Palin next, maybe?!

I've always liked her because she is straight edge and sticks to it. I admire that. She never drinks, never smokes, nothing, purely because she doesn't want to. It's so refreshing to see that nowadays.
