Support Women Artists Sunday: Elle King
So I came across Elle King this week pretty unexpectedly by browsing through Jezebel. And…well, you’ll see.
The fashionable 19-year-old Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter’s piercing voice and heartfelt lyrics will captivate you. “I feel completely at home when I’m performing, and it gives me the biggest rush,” she said. “So, I’ve pretty much always known I wanted to be a performer.” King, who was born in Los Angeles “to some crazy, wonderful parents,” moved to New York when she was 11 years old. “My amazing step-dad was the lead singer in a kick-ass band called Bob City,” she said. “He was from New York, so he moved us with him.” King, who just finished her “pretty outrageous” first year of college, explained that he was the one who put a guitar in her hands.“I practiced until my fingers bled and sang until my voice went out,” said King, who has been writing music since she was 13 years old.
She will be rerecording her songs and dropping an album as soon as she can, she said. “Music brings me happiness, and I want to feel this way forever,” she said. “I think that means that I’ll be singing and performing for a long time.”

No One Can Save You
No One Can Save you is her only video out…but check out her myspace: myspace.com/ellekingmusic. Mexico, Missing Parts, and The Captain Song are all pretty amazing. But so are the rest of them. Seriously, I have the biggest girl crush.

Her voice is PHENOMENAL! Wow. I like to think that I’m pretty up to date with new music, especially awesome female musicians, but I love hearing about new artists from y’all. Thanks for this!

Knew this girl personally…she has always been a spoiled brat. I know a few other wonderful women with similar voices and overall fantastic stage personalities…but hey, its always easier to get noticed in the music world when you come from a background like Elle’s. I’m not one to normally put others down, but I cant help it in this case; the way she blatantly flaunted her privilege and treated others disrespectfully is just not acceptable and I will not support her work.

Wow Heather Noname, that’s funny because I know her personally too and she’s nothing like you said AT ALL. She’s very sweet and down to earth. She grew up in Ohio and Brooklyn with her mom and only visits her dad. She supports herself and works to make money. She’s never been anything but humble and kind. I think you must be talking about someone else.

Elle King is one of the most lovely and humble young womenI have ever met. She is a glorious spirit and a true talent. Her voice sings for itself.

Nope, I’m not talking about someone else. This is definitely the same person. BUT, I am only speaking from my experience with her, and this was years ago–So maybe she has changed. Also, just because she only visits her dad does not mean she is any less privileged in terms of the connections she has in Hollywood.

Someone holds a grudge. Or is it jealousy?
it takes a lot to be a bad ass and a folk singer.
I really dig her music…
