Saturday Vids: Modern Lady takes on Gisele

“Erin Gibson weighs in on the controversy surrounding Gisele Bündchen’s comments about mandatory breastfeeding. From clips of Whoopi Goldberg on “The View” to talking heads across the political spectrum, Erin tells the media to chillax and leave the supermodel alone. But, Gisele is also called out for acting like a boob.”

    Im actually FOR breastfeeding. If I ever have a kid I plan to let them ween naturally. It seems to ahve a ton of benefits.

    That being said, if others dont want to or cant breastfeed, who is ANYONE to try and tell a WOMAN what to do with HER BODY.

    Thats like the fricken abortion laws. (controlling what women can and cant do with her body)

    Wow. We had a woman get on national news in Australia basically saying exactly the same thing as Giselle and although there’s plenty of women who disagree, it wasn’t this controversial.
    The next day everyone had already forgotten the comments about madndatory breastfeeding.

    I’m with Jen on liking the idea of breast feeding for my own eventual children. It is natural and there are plenty of benefits that come from it such as closeness to your child, healthy babies and general well being of a mother-child relationship.

    As for the way the various news clippings shown and commentary by Erin Gibson:
    These women are
    1) taking this way too seriously, Gisele was just strongly stating her feelings on an issue pertaining to her life, we all know these women of the news do this on a daily basis;
    2) By bashing on Gisele and saying that she shouldn’t speak up because she’s just a pretty model is just reinforcing society’s looking relations in regard to women, not to mention reinforcing the male gaze set upon women in our world;
    and 3) What is so wrong with wanting to be a good mother to her children in her own way? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even a Brazilian Beauty who’s job is to model

    People actually took her seriously? I mean, aren’t there more… well, crap, isn’t there ANYTHING more important than that?

    Although, I like the idea behind it. Not the whole “locking women up for not breastfeeding bit,” but rather the idea that hey: you had a child. Hey: feed the child delicious nutritious milk.

    Hey: saggy tits should be a side effect of pregnancy. Hey: if you didn’t want saggy tits maybe you shouldn’t have had a child.

    There are plenty of legitimate reasons not to breastfeed. This, I understand. At the same time, I know a couple of women who had their kid, dropped them off with baby formula and a relative, and went back to doing whatever they were doing before, career or not.

    Isn’t the point of having a child to take care of it?
