I’m A Boy

My interest in feminism could have started when my mom told me that people “aren’t weird, they’re just different.” It could have started when I was teased in elementary school for having braces or in high school for having overbite. It could have been those journalism classes or seeing how Native people in my high school were treated by my peers. Maybe it was because I had to come out as queer and then again, as a transgender man.

Support Women Artists Sunday: Kate Walsh

She’s been called music’s best kept, not-so-secret ‘secret.’; ‘The missing link between Joni Mitchell’ (hails UK’s The Guardian) and a host of female singer/songwriters cut from the UK’s intricately-stitched musical fabric. None, however, have emerged on the cusp of their US debut with an album as sure and ready-to-occupy as Kate Walsh’s aptly titled Tim’s House. Why Homosexuality Is Perfectly Natural

A miniature Wild West town served as a backdrop to a very interesting thought. There is a scene in Rango where the eponymous character kisses his love interest, the sassy lizard named Beans. The two perform a perfectly heteronormative act in a theater packed with young children, and I thought about how they were all passively learning to recognize this as suitable conduct. I realized that I had been taught the exact same thing. Then I realized:

As a young boy, I was never taught to be attracted to men as a child. And yet now, as a teen, I identify as gay.
