Sex is probably one of the most taboo, yet most highly discussed topic in any teenager’s life. If you’re not talking about sex, you’re probably thinking about sex. Even if you manage to push all sexual thoughts from your head for a minute — something I’m still working on — you’re bound to be bombarded with some sex-laced commercial, reading, or comment. Regardless of the position you take on sex, it exists and that’s why each and every one of us is here.

Support Women Artists Sunday: Jean Grae

Jean Grae (real name “Tsidi Ibrahim”), born November 26, 1976 is a hip hop artist from New York. She rose to prominence in the underground hip-hop scene in New York City, and has since built an international fanbase.

Born in Cape Town, South Africa on November 26, 1976, the daughter of South African jazz musicians (her father and mother are the celebrated musicians Sathima Bea Benjamin and Abdullah Ibrahim), she studied Vocal Performance at the LaGuardia School of Music & Art before majoring in Music Business at New York University.

After working with groups including Ground Zero, she joined a hip hop music group called Natural Resource in the mid-1990s, along with rapper Ocean. In 1996 they released a pair of 12-inch singles called Negro League Baseball. She also appeared

Saturday Vids: K-Y Intense Features A Lesbian Couple

There’s been a lot of talk recently in the feminist blogosphere about K-Y Intense’s new commercial. K-Y has been airing commercials that feature “real” couples who use their product for some time now, but this is their first video that features a gay couple. What’s more, and what sets this commercial apart from virtually all other representations of gay couples on TV, this lesbian couple is not eroticized or featured solely for the enjoyment of a male audience. It’s actually kind of sweet. Or as sweet as what is still ultimately an attempt to sell people shit can be. Check it out:

“I’ll Show You Mine”: Exposing the Illusion of Normal

As I cracked open the pink cover of “I’ll Show You Mine” and pulled back the beautiful, full-color pages, my mind rushed back to five years ago. I was in a tiny feminist sex boutique halfway up a Manhattan high rise. It was in that shop’s book section that I first saw (and subsequently purchased) 1980’s classic “A New View Of A Woman’s Body”. Right in the middle of the book, there they were: real vaginas. Real vulvas. Real cervixes.
