Saturday Vids: Dr. Pepper Just For Men
Similar to the recent Tide commercial post, I just saw the new Dr. Pepper ad which recently joined the ranks of sexist ad campaigns like Miller Light and Pepsi Zero. Apparently, Dr. Pepper Ten is not for women. It really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to see misogynistic advertisements in the media nowadays!

What a disgusting display of gender stereotypes! This commercial really makes it clear what society tells men and women to like and want. The fact that these desires are predefined for us based on gender disturbs me.

I just want to ask them, what about lesbians? We don’t really like girly movies, so what about us? Plus we love women too!

Diet sodas have a huge image problem, they are thought of as the domain of women, as only women diet:p
So the ad agency attempts to fight archetypical stereotypes with an even bigger stereotype.

Well, darn. It’s happening again. And people WONDER why I don’t watch a lot of TV.

Perhaps this is just my insensitivity, but I didn’t find anything to be afraid of in this commercial. I agree with Alex. Men are often excluded from target demographics for clothing, healthy foods, and household products, so this video is handling the problem with a bit of satire involved. It’s obviously meant to be over the top and I don’t know a single man who genuinely believes that only men love action movies (I love romantic comedies) or that any drink could be “just for men”. It’s comedy; nothing more.
