Are We Sexually Equal?

Women have made great strides towards social, political and economic equality in the past decades, but where do we stand in terms of sexual equality? Humans are sexual creatures who all want to explore our sexuality, but society undeniably still influences many women and men to view sex differently.

While medical advancements, like the invention of the pill, have radically transformed women’s sexual autonomy, there are still a number of cultural forces that suppress women’s sexuality. Women are still sexually exploited in the media and there are still societal pressures that encourage us to think of men as overly sexual creatures and women as demure and untouchable. Introducing “FBomb Talks Sex”

Sex is probably one of the most taboo, yet most highly discussed topic in any teenager’s life. If you’re not talking about sex, you’re probably thinking about sex. Even if you manage to push all sexual thoughts from your head for a minute — something I’m still working on — you’re bound to be bombarded with some sex-laced commercial, reading, or comment. Regardless of the position you take on sex, it exists and that’s why each and every one of us is here.

“I’ll Show You Mine”: Exposing the Illusion of Normal

As I cracked open the pink cover of “I’ll Show You Mine” and pulled back the beautiful, full-color pages, my mind rushed back to five years ago. I was in a tiny feminist sex boutique halfway up a Manhattan high rise. It was in that shop’s book section that I first saw (and subsequently purchased) 1980’s classic “A New View Of A Woman’s Body”. Right in the middle of the book, there they were: real vaginas. Real vulvas. Real cervixes. At the time, I had no clue shops like this existed, let alone books like this. Seeing a stranger’s body in all of its reality shocked me, fascinated me, and eventually sparked a transformation of my understanding of what is “real” and what is “normal”. “I’ll Show You Mine” offers …
