A Feminist Rushes A Sorority
When I thought about what my college experience would be like as a high schooler, I never for a second even slightly entertained the faintest thought of joining a sorority. As a self-identified feminist, as someone who thought chapstick was a full face of makeup, and as someone who had about as much interest in enduring mosh-pits of grinding frat boys as she did in microbial taxonomy (read: none) I just had zero interest in what I, frankly, saw as an antiquated, possibly even anti-feminist and insulting tradition. Which is why when I pressed “send” on my sorority recruitment application last December, nobody was more surprised than I was.

Feminist Dilemma: An Addiction To It Girl
I’m a feminist and as such I try to make conscious decisions in my daily life that uphold feminist ideals. But then came It Girl. It Girl is a facebook game centered around fashion, partying, and dating. It is one of the few MMO-esque games marketed exclusively to women. The game is simple, create an avatar, buy clothes, go to parties, compete against other users. Yes, you compete against other users in “showdowns” where you can earn money and fame. You level up by shaming other girls with your fashion skills.
This game represents everything that I stand against. It Girl emphasizes style over substance. It Girl tells you that you can improve your reputation through the newest clothes or hottest boyfriends. Worst of all it pits you against other …

How Do We Solve A Problem Like Kappa Sigma?
This week, USC’s chapter of Kappa Sigma sent around an e-mail describing how to be an effective “cocksman,” calling a woman’s vagina her “pie” and her mouth/throat a “gullet.” The writer of the e-mail tells his fellow brothers to send him all of their hook-ups in “Tucker Max format” (Tucker Max is a douchebag who notoriously glamorizes his womanizing and drunken antics as epic adventures) and females are “targets” who “aren’t actual people like us men. Consequently, giving them a certain name or distinction is pointless.”
That isn’t even the worst of it. The e-mail classifies women’s “pies” by race, and says “non-consent and rape are two different things,” and includes a rating system to evaluate each woman’s looks. (Read the whole e-mail here on Jezebel). The chapter …
