Memo to the Right Wing: Women Know You Really Have Our Backs
If Ann Romney says the GOP loves women then it MUST be true!
Dear Right Wing,
On behalf of my country and my gender, I would just like to say that I’m so sorry the media has cruelly misconstrued your obviously well-intentioned musings on rape and rape-related pregnancies. SO frustrating, guys! For some reason women get all sensitive and dramatic when it comes to what the government will force us to do or not to do after being sexually assaulted.
I know, sometimes the political environment just seems so darn friendly to social extremism that you let you guard down for ONE moment and try to have an intelligent conversation with mature adults about how rape and resulting pregnancies are God’s will, and in fact, “gifts” from God and suddenly …

An Interview with Peta Lindsay
Over the past few months, we have been inundated with news about Obama and Romney — especially about their policies in terms of women. But did you know that there’s a woman running for president? You may not have heard of her, but Peta Lindsay is the 2012 presidential candidate of the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
According to the PSL website, Lindsay is a 2008 graduate of Howard University and currently lives in Los Angeles where she remains a leader and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in education from the University of Southern California with the goal of becoming a public school teacher. She has represented the U.S. anti-war movement and the Party for Socialism and Liberation at important conferences and mass gatherings across the globe. For …

Ann Romney’s Appeal to Women
Ann Romney at the RNC
More than ever, the women’s vote is important in the 2012 Presidential Election. All of the attention around the politics of health care for women had made the Republican Party and the Romney campaign acutely aware that they must work to engage the female voting population and to convince them to vote Republican in November.
So on the first night for the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida, Ann Romney stepped up to make an extended appeal to women. Her speech touched on her relationship with her husband, her struggles raising five children, and her belief that America would flourish under her husband’s direction. All of those appeals though rested on the idea that women – mothers and wives in particular – are the …

Saturday Vids: Mallika Dutt — The “War On Women” Is Bigger Than You Think
“As the Supreme Court considers key elements of Arizona’s SB 1070 law, which legalizes racial profiling of and blatant discrimination against immigrant communities and people of color, stories from around the country show that this and other laws like it, such as Alabama’s H.B. 56. are causing intense damage to families, communities and economies, with devastating consequences for immigrant women.
These laws leave parents unable to protect their children. They force women to choose between the threat of an abusive husband and the threat of deportation if they call the police. They send pregnant mothers to give birth in shackles with federal agents by their side.
As part of a delegation to Birmingham, Alabama with the We Belong Together campaign, Breakthrough president Mallika Dutt connects the dots between Arizona’s SB …

The Importance of Voting
They fought for your right to vote so take it seriously!
I am now officially a member of the National Organization for Women (NOW)! NOW is the largest feminist organization in the country, and has been a huge presence in women’s rights advocacy ever since its creation by Betty Friedan in 1966.
While I had a relationship with NOW before I joined, I felt like I really belonged when I recently attended the National Organization for Women (NOW) webinar titled “AAUW Voter Outreach Campaign Strategy Session.” The webinar was co-run by NOW and AAUW (the American Association of University Women), and hosted by NOW President Terry O’Neill and AAUW State Grassroots Advocacy Manager Kimberly Fountain. It was all about how to get women at the polls in the …
